Experimental Animation Complete!

Finally finished my experimental animation final. While I was frustrated at some points, I learned a whole lot of stuff about After Effects so that was cool. I had to cut the end abruptly because of time, but I'm still happy with it nonetheless.

Chefs

Some chefs! Had a lot of fun selecting colors for these.

Experimental Animation: More WIP

I did another scene for the experimental animation final. I learned a lot of neat stuff in after effects so that was cool.

Carnations

Carnations are full of ruffles and ruffles are fun to draw.

Flowers: Indian Blankets

Indian blankets are really pretty. They look like something that would be on cute fluffy skirts.

Flowers: Roses???

Roses are weird.

Experimental Animation: Puppet WIP

Making a puppet for my experimental animation final. I never used textures to this extend before, I'm quite happy with how it's coming along. I'll post more progress on it as it comes along.

As you can see, this girl still needs a face.

Creative Habit Week 1

So far I'm having a lot of fun with the project! I made a large canvas and sketched on it through out the week. I'm kinda happy with some of these, though I noticed I repeated some elements and thus didn't get as much variety as I hoped. It was still a learning experience nonetheless, and I can keep that in mind for the next batch of sketches!

Well here it is, my week worth of sketches on one huge canvas.

I think for the future I will try and break up the picture into separate images rather than one huge one....For better navigation and presentation.

The Creative Habit: Themed Character Designs

I'm super excited for the upcoming project! It's a nice cool down from the previous project and gives me a chance to sit down and practice what I enjoy doing. For this project I plan to sketch and create a character every week. (A witch, a thief, a farmer, etc.) I want to experiment with different body types and research different time periods and styles. I feel like I need to loosen up more and push my boundaries. I'll do daily sketches to learn the body types and understand them at different angles.

Animation Stuff

I made an effects animation for class. I wanted to make it a gif but I was having so many problems so I just uploaded the video instead. It's my first (decent) full color animation that I've done, so I'm quite happy with it!

Arkins

I wanted to do some more color practice so I decided to draw my character Arkins! He's a farmer's boy who's a huge scardey cat. I don't really have much on him yet unfortunately.

DAN Logo

I was asked to add some effects to the DAN Logo that Jacob made! Here's the result:

It was kinda hard to work with since there were separate screens but hey I tried.

Music Suggestions (playlist)

Gif. now with words

So I tried adding words this time around. It feels a little fast. It's kinda hard to edit because photoshop is weird about video layers.

Now with rewind

It's coming along...

Another test

Decided to shoot again since the last one was too centered. This one is slightly better but I wish I was more to the left.

Edit: Fixed (sorta)

I'll probably change the framing for this because wow, not the best composition for this project.

Pipeline Project - Yokai Case Files

Idea
To create fake case files involving yokai using illustration and photomanipulation. Each case file will have a picture of the alleged yokai, a description of the yokai (known powers, abilities, etc), a picture of the incident or the scene of the crime, and a testimony from the victim and/or witness.

The idea can be presented with in the form of a tabbed scrapbook, or a blog diary (for easy online access).  Film can also be used to create interviews, and/or homevideo-esque footage for each case.

What the heck is a yokai?
Yokai are a group of supernatural creatures from Japanese Folklore. They come in all sorts of forms such as animals, beasts, ghosts, etc. Yokai.com and Obakemono are great resources for yokai information!

Examples

I did a quick sketch to illustrate what I imagined. (Sort of)

I think this picture does a better job of summing it up. (From the game Mystery Case Files)

Final Line Up of Mr.Moon! I decided to redo Mr. Moon's portrait entirely along with his pose in the simplified line-up. Hope you enjoy, this project was a lot of fun!

Brief Description: Mr. Moon is a moon deity that wanders the night and grants dreamers peaceful dreams. He rides around on a cow named Gouda, who leads his army of sheep (named after various cheeses) that assist him with various dreams. Each sheep caries a power that help enhance various dreams depending on the dream’s mood.

Mr. Moon remake process

So after some thinking I decided to redo Mr. Moon's portrait entirely. While it sucks having to start over, it gives me the opportunity to show some process!

My friend pointed out that his portrait seemed wildly out of place. So like Gouda and the space sheep, he now has a border. Anyways, the first order of business was laying down a sketch.

Then I cleaned up the sketch and made (sort of) nice lineart.

 Added a background.
 Putting down the base colors.
Rending, overlay and the final result! I started painting over the lineart layer and started added touches with overlay and multiply layers.

BONUS: Gouda and Mr. Moon early sketches.
